He wanted a pizza party…

So I turned 26 yesterday. Twenty-six. As in, 4 years before 30. Anyway.

It was also the last day of Summer School, so I got up that morning, took my final, and then did a little dance. If I play my cards right, I might MIGHT end up with all A’s for this summer. We’ll see.

I was off work (I think I was more excited about that than I was about it being my birthday), so mom took me to lunch at Olive Garden.

That’s my go-to restaurant. Love me some pasta. Dad was fishing with his cousins, but they made sure to call me from the boat and sing Happy Birthday. It was cute.

After lunch I came back home, did a little primping, and then went to two schools down the road from me to talk to the principals. No one is hiring right now, and it’s very discouraging, but I wanted to get my face and resume out there. It can’t hurt, right?

Earlier that morning I had gotten a text from my friend Laura. She wanted to know if I had plans for supper, and did I want to have a birthday supper with them? Sure! After all my errands, I headed out there.

Melain and Landry were taking a nap when I got there, and Cade was furiously working on something at the kitchen table. Much drama ensued when I walked in the door because he wasn’t done making my card. After I went to the back to “check on the girls” he had a chance to finish it and tape it up for me. Cutest thing ever. Once Melain woke up, she had her chance to paint me a picture too.

Laura was working on making a cake as well. My friends are better than your friends in case you were wondering. Cade had told her that “we HAD to have a pizza party and go to Johnny’s and just tell Ahmee to meet us up there and when she walks in we hide and then scream SURPRISE and surprise her!!” And when Laura suggested they make brownies he looked at her like she was an idiot and said “no mom. we have to have a cake”. I love that kid.

We didn’t go to Johnny’s (hello, 3 week old baby) but we did order pizza and have a pizza party at home. Which was perfectly fine with me. After the cake had chilled in the fridge for a bit (cream cheese icing, ya’ll, it will rock your world) they brought it out and sang and blew out helped me blow out the candles.

I posted the above picture on Facebook, and my mom commented on it wanting to know if they were my children. I guess that pic does kinda have a “mom” vibe to it, doesn’t it? Who cares. I’ll claim ‘em.

It was a good birthday. And the whole not-married-don’t-have-any-kids-where-is-my-life-going bit only got me down for a little while. Score!

The best day.

I’d been waiting for this day since the minute I got the text that she was pregnant. Laura was gracious enough to allow me to be in the room when this precious baby girl made her appearance, and it will forever connect me to this baby and be one of my most favorite days. They can’t get rid of me now.

It was the best day.

Landry

They had to be at the hospital at 5am. We all knew Laura didn’t have a history of fast deliveries, so I strolled in about 9:30. Stan started off the day by calling people and beginning a pool of what time we thought Landry would make her arrival. Needless to say, we were all WAY off. Landry1Laura had walked around at at 3 centimeters for the past 2 weeks, so we all thought it wouldn’t take long for her to progress. Landry had other ideas though. She was given time to see if she would go into labor on her own (she didn’t with the other two, she had to be induced both times.), but she just wasn’t. The pitocin was started around 12:30, but by 4:30 she was still only 4 centimeters. Brandi, her doula, and I kept catching eyes across the room. We were starting to get a little worried that she hadn’t made any more progress.

Stan’s dad had the kids, and they desperately wanted to see their mommy. By that time it was around 6:30, and we didn’t know how much longer it would be, so she was able to smile through the pain and see her babies for just a few minutes. Did I mention she didn’t get an epidural? This girl rocks, and to be able to talk through contractions is hardcore. Landry2

Not long after the kids left, things started moving along fairly quickly. The smiles decreased as the pain increased.

It wasn’t easy watching her in pain, but she pushed through it like something I’ve never seen before. And then, when I thought she couldn’t take anymore…

…there she was.

This baby girl who just moments before was swimming around in her mommy’s belly. She was here and she was beautiful.

The room was quiet. I was crying, Laura’s mom was crying. The moment they plopped her on her mother’s chest is something I’ll never forget. She was perfect, and I was in love. Ten fingers, ten toes, and a head full of dark brown hair.

In which I steal..

Untitled-1

A layout, not a baby. Although if she did turn up missing, her mom wouldn’t have to look far to find her!

This little girl’s birthday was an awesome day, a post on that coming soon.

(picture layout idea totally stolen from Kelle Hampton.)

Cougar

This week I was observing at a local elementary school to get in some observation hours that I needed for a class that starts next week. I had been told the day before that if I came prepared (resume, program plan, test scores, etc), I could interview with the principal of the school, since I’m looking for a job.

Wednesday morning I got up, put on a nice dress, heels, a little more make-up than I normally wear, earrings, the works. We had to be at the school at 7:30 (ugh), so when I got there, of course the principal wasn’t there. I met up with my fellow observers and we walked down to the cafeteria where the kids were getting breakfast. I walked in with another girl, and as we walked in I noticed one of the little Kindergarten boys eyeballing me up and down. Amye and I walked past him to go sit down, and I hear behind us “Heyyy baby!” I thought for sure it was one of the older kids talking to one of the other female students or SOMETHING along those lines.

No.

Y’all, it was the Kindergartner. He had stood up, was walking sauntering over to us, with his eyebrows raised. We sat down and before he could get to us I just glanced in his direction and gave him the Teacher Stare. You know what I mean.

Anyone know the name for the boy counterpart to a cougar?
