Life in detail

At dinner each night on the cruise, our table was full of cameras. Lori’s, Jenna’s, Michele’s and my camera were always there. It got pretty humorous watching us try to figure out where to put them on the table so they wouldn’t get anything spilled on them.

While waiting for our food to be delivered each night, we’d flip through each other’s cameras to see what pictures they had taken that day. It was always interesting to see how other people see things. While I took a picture of the side of the boat, Lori took a picture of the ropes anchoring the boat to the dock.

 

Seeing everyone’s different views on our surroundings got me thinking I don’t pay enough attention to the small details in my every day life. Will I remember that my first Christmas tree in my first apartment is still in the box in the corner of my living room, a month and a half after Christmas? What about the empty water bottle box that still sits by my front door and has been there for about 2 months? I want to be able to remember the little things, so I took some pictures today to capture my life right now.

The controller to the electric blanket on my bed. This is a must in the winter, especially because I’m pretty cold natured and I keep the heat down pretty low to save money.

The best local pizza place ever. This thing fed me for about 3 days.

The book I’m reading. When we went to NYC in May of last year, we saw this on Broadway and I was hooked. I still have the soundtrack cd in my car.

The current state of my laptop. The screen went out months ago, and when I was replacing the cord to fix it, the hinge snapped. I managed to at least get a screw back in to hold it together, but then my recliner decided to attack it, and popped off the front plastic part, and then I discovered the OTHER hinge snapped as well. The computer itself still works fine, but I have to prop the broken parts up on each other. Luckily it wasn’t like this during the cruise, but until I get another computer, I won’t be taking this one anywhere. I’m saving for a Mac, so it will be a while until I get a new one.

We get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life we sometimes forget to look at what’s around us and appreciate it. Don’t forget to see the details.

Words can't describe how amazing it is to come together with a group of people, not knowing a soul, and leaving with 30 new friends.

I have much, much more to say, but it's late so I'll just leave you with pictures for now...

2009 in pictures

Happy New Year! Here's what I was up to in 2009. Brace yourselves folks, it's riveting stuff.

January

I rang in the New Year last year with friends and this adorable little girl

February

Went to the local Mardi Gras parade and met up with a friend who has moved away.

March
Moved out of my parents' house. Woo hoo! Funny thing is, about 2 months from now I believe I'm moving again.

April

Went to my company's annual Easter egg hunt at the zoo.
Gave my poor Goddaughter antennas.

May
Mom retired from teaching. I believe she had 30+ years.

Went to NYC with mom and Laura. Had an absolute blast and I can't wait to go back!

In June I had LASIK on my eyes. They looked pretty nasty so I'll spare you the pictures. But I got rid of my glasses I'd had since 3rd grade. Best money I've spent!

July
Melain and I had our first sleepover at my apartment. She was an angel and slept all night.

August



In August my friend Heather got married and I was a bridesmaid. At the end of the month I also threw a baby shower for my friend Sharon

September

In September I went to the beach with Laura and Stan and their family. My friend Sharon had her baby while I was gone, and I got to take some pictures of him when I got back!

October

In October we had our annual girls trip to Natchez to the Hot Air Balloon Festival. Good times!

November

Tanner turned 1. I had my first Christmas tree decorating party at my apartment. I use the term "decorating" very lightly.

December
My friend Lillie came through town and I got to meet her ridiculously cute twin baby boys.

Had a good Christmas with the family. Dad got a guitar. Laura got a really neat Nativity scene, I got a sweet new camera lens, and then we partied out in the country with extended family, shooting fireworks and cozying up next to the bonfire.

I'm incredibly blessed and fortunate to have the friends and family that I do. I can't wait to see what the new year brings. More babies are on the way for several of my close friends, and I'm really excited about that. Possibly moving, traveling a good bit, and hopefully starting Graduate School is all on my agenda.

Frustration

I really don’t like it when people ignore me. Like, really really don’t like it. I emailed the graduate department at ULM this past week to ask some questions I had about registering for a test. I was expecting an answer within a day or so. Fast forward 4 days later and I still haven’t gotten a response. Oh and did I mention I emailed two different people? Today was the last day to register to take the test in December. I won’t have the chance again until February, and then I still have at least 2 more tests to take before March 30^th to get into the program during the first summer session. Plus observation hours.

Now, I could have gotten off my butt and gone up to their office. I know that. But seriously? In this day and age, can’t someone email someone else and expect a reply? It frustrates me to no end!

This was my dad's idea of a prank. I have an irrational fear of spiders, so when mom found this gem in the Walgreens paper, dad told her to get it and that he had an idea. I came home from work at 11 at night the week of Halloween, and my front door and porch area is decorated. They put the fake spiderweb stuff all over the door, and then strung the spider (I named him Willie, cause he gave me the willies) on the web between the two posts. I'm just glad they don't have a key. Oh and when I finally took the big guy down? Yeah, he kept freaking me out in my living room when I would walk through.

Thanksgiving is next week. Laura and Jeremy are coming down from Arkansas and we'll all be able to have lunch on Thursday at mom and dad's before I go to work. I'm working that day and Friday. Double holiday pay, woot woot! Since I wasn't able to come to her house this year, Laura made me promise we would go shopping Friday morning. I told her she was crazy if she thought I was getting up at 4am. I think we're going to go at 8 instead. Everything will be picked clean I'm sure, but she wants to go.

Oh by the way, I turned on the word verification so we'll see how that does! Let me know if it works because it didn't when I tested it.
