I've been trying to come up with some creative ways to organize the nursery at church. I love how the wicker baskets look and stuff, but I don't think they're very practical in a nursery. They tend to flake, and I'd rather not have that on the floor while little ones are crawling around. I'd love to have a corner of the room be a station and just have little stations all over. Like something with books and puzzles in one area, something with blocks and other stuff in another area, etc.. I think that would work out well. Any ideas?
Stephanie asked me at church last night if I was going to continue working in the nursery after I finished school. I don't see a problem with it, it's only 2 days a week, a total of like 5 hours. The only issue that could arise is that my full time schedule would conflict with Wednesday night church. I love spending time with the kids, and there are at least 2 more that will be here in the next 8 months or so, so I'm looking forward to that too.
Dane told me that since Jennifer isn't going to be teaching the 2's & 3's class starting in September, we're going to be combining them with the nursery. Supposedly I'll have a volunteer in there the whole time to help with the little ones, and I'll do a brief lesson with the older kids. I don't have a problem teaching, but right now there are kids older than 3 that go in that class. I"m not very comfortable having them in the nursery with a 5 month old right now, especially if my volunteer doesn't show up. For one, the room's not that big, and for two, it's just asking for an accident to happen.
I've been considering my options once graduation gets here. I've had to turn down numerous full time positions here at Ctel, so I have no doubt that I can get on once I do graduate. But...I don't want this as a career job. There are tons of options I have out there. There's a career placement center thing on campus that gives you a test of some sort, I'm guessing like an aptitude test (thanks for help with the word becca), and then gives you job opportunities that are available in the area. Then, I'm most likely going to take the civil service test at some point and see about getting a State job somewhere. I'm not opposed to moving off if it's a good job. Also, I've been thinking about maybe looking into what it would involve for me to be a preschool teacher. The program at ULM, TeachNortheast, is 18 months long and you don't have to student teach. I don't know all the details, but it's something worth looking into. It'd be nice to have a job where you get summers off :) And then, there's always good 'ole CenturyTel. We'll see. I trust God will put me where He wants me.
I finished my bed! Yay for me! I'll post pictures when I get some new bedding, which I have a feeling is going to be a birthday present. Mom's mentioned twice something about bedding from Target, so we'll see. I'm so excited! If I had been really ambitious, I would've ripped up the ugly white carpet from the floor, but I didn't have that kind of time. Plus, I didn't want to do a whole lot of stuff since I won't be there for too too much longer anyway.
Oh let me say that I am so very excited about this weekend. Besides being my birthday, a bunch of us are going to Caney to just relax on the lake. We're going to grill and just hang out. I think last time I counted there were 6 or 7 going, so it should be a ton of fun.
Anyway, I'm at work, so let me go so I don't get in trouble. Have a good night!

stations we have are books/puzzles, blocks, "home living" which is the little kitchen and baby dolls and a table, i'm not sure what they have the tv/radio entertainment center labeled. but that's in our threes class, the nursery just has a toy box baby beds and a tv/vcr, a huge room for so few kids that are in there.
I agree that the 2s and 3s would be okay for a little while, but some 2s even are too big for infants. So I would be sure to bring up the safety factor of the "older" ones in the 3s class. if leadership won't listen, talk to the parents, they'll get them to listen.
if i understand it correctly, for the teach northeast program your first year teaching is considered your student teaching and you get evaluated etc. i believe it's a temporary certification until that year is over, and then you're certified... or certifiable.
have fun on your birthday weekend get away!
